    about me

    Hi, I'm Flora 👋🏼

Born and raised in Shenzhen, China, I moved to Bellevue, WA, at 15 with my mom and little brother.

Writing and storytelling have always been how I explore my identity, connect with my community, and make sense of the world around me. In high school, I led the Features section of our student newspaper, where I interviewed people from all walks of life and shared their stories. That experience was deeply fulfilling and shaped my trajectory.

I went on to study public relations and business in college and now work in marketing & communications, helping large companies and startups improve operations and craft go-to-market strategies.

I’ve always felt a strong pull towards my purpose, and that's connecting people and ideas to help them shine. Being bilingual and bicultural has taught me empathy, humility, and adaptability. It’s given me a lens that’s inquisitive, compassionate, and open.

Now, I'm building a community to uplift a part of my identity that often goes unseen: Generation 1.5. Read more below 👇🏼

    About Generation 1.5

🌏 What Does It Mean to Be Generation 1.5?

Generation 1.5 refers to immigrants who moved to a new country during their formative years—typically between ages 6 and 12.

They’re not fully “first-gen” nor fully “second-gen”—they’re somewhere in between, growing up with a foot in two worlds.

At Generation 1.5, we also embrace the full spectrum of in-between immigrant experiences:

    • 1.75 generation: Immigrated in early childhood (ages 0–5)
    • 1.5 generation: Immigrated in middle childhood (ages 6–12)
    • 1.25 generation: Immigrated in adolescence (ages 13–17)

No matter your age of arrival, if you’ve had to build a life between cultures—this is your community.

People in this space are often:

    • Bilingual and bicultural, yet not fully at home in either identity
    • Navigating complex questions of belonging, career, and self-expression
    • Often balancing academic, professional, and social expectations from two cultures

At Generation 1.5, we’re creating a space where these identities are understood and celebrated. Whether you’re here to share your story, explore your roots, or connect with others—you belong here.
